Job type: Full-time

Salary: $35,000 - $40,000 a year

The Family Support Specialist (FSS) will support pregnant and new parenting persons and their extended family. FSS is responsible for initiating and maintaining continuous support with families throughout their pregnancy, birthing, new parenting, and early childhood experiences.

Responsibilities:

Family Support Specialist provide a range of culturally competent; family-centered services that support families participating in the program with healthy lifestyle goals to empower the perinatal and postpartum experience, parent-child relationship, family support systems and community. Family Support Specialist:

  • Conduct initial assessments and submit all documentation within program guidelines
  • Guide families in the development of Individual Family Support Plans (IFSP) based on strengths and needs of the individual families
  • Advocate for the client to receive the optimal health care available to them
  • Develop and maintain ongoing outreach strategies to inform families and the community of programs and services
  • Inform families of community resources, programs and services
  • Assists families in making appointments for health and human services
  • Accompany families to apply for support services when necessary and desired
  • Refer families to other support services in the community
  • Attends orientation and ongoing training sessions to support work in maternal and child health

Qualifications:

  • Associate degree in Human Services
  • Previous Social Work/Case Work
  • Completion of a Birth Doula or Postpartum Certification Course preferred 

Skills:

  • Knowledgeable about community resources
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people and develop rapport with clients from varied cultural/ethnic backgrounds
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish

Experience:

  • 1 year (Preferred)
  • Has experience supporting families experiencing domestic violence, teen pregnancy, substance or alcohol abuse, homeless, high-risk pregnancy, low-income
